心に残る、冬の京都案内A Memorable Winter Tour of Kyoto

1月の寒い時期に7人で京都を訪れたため、いくつかの寺院を巡る貸切観光がよいと考えました。東京に住む娘からMKを勧められ、予約することにしました。担当してくださった池原正澄さんは、とても礼儀正しく、グループの中に歩行へ配慮が必要な者がいることにも気を配ってくださいました。

英語で、伝統的な美術や技術を受け継ぐ職人が集まる通りについて説明してくださり、金閣寺では京都の文化遺産に関する深い知識も伝えてくれました。予定していた寺院巡りを楽しみ、祇園の家族経営のお好み焼き店で昼食を取りました。火曜日で二条城が休館していた際にも、別の訪問先へ変更して対応してくださいました。京都という特別な街を巡った7時間は、すばらしい一日になりました。思い出に残る一日をありがとうございました。

There were seven of us visiting in the cold weather of January, so it seemed more sensible to have a private tour of several of the temples. The MK Company was recommended by my daughter in Tokyo, so I decided to book with them. We were so pleased to have Masazumi Ikehara as our guide. He was very courteous, as expected, and considerate of the mobility of some of our group.

In good English he was able to talk about the streets that are full of craftspeople practising traditional arts and skills. We then visited the Golden Pavilion, where he demonstrated his depth of knowledge of his cultural heritage. We enjoyed our planned tour of the temples and had lunch at an okonomiyaki family restaurant in the Gion area. More knowledge was shared at all of the sites we visited. We had to substitute Nijo Castle because it was closed on a Tuesday. All up, we had a marvellous seven hours seeing the special city that is Kyoto. Thanks, Masa, for a memorable day.

正澄さんは本当にすばらしいドライバーでした。私が企画した京都での3日間の旅行に参加した友人全員が、正澄さんのおかげで京都での時間が特別なものになったと感じています。これほどまでに、お客様にすばらしい時間を過ごしてもらおうと努力するドライバーやガイドに出会ったことはありません。それぞれの寺院や訪問先について、ご存じのことを丁寧に説明してくださいました。本当にすばらしく、温かいお人柄の方です。

Masa was an incredible driver, and all of the friends on my organized three-day trip to Kyoto agreed that he made our time in Kyoto magical. We have never seen a driver or any tour guide strive so hard to ensure we had an exceptional time. He did a great job of showing and explaining everything he knew about each temple and site. An incredible and wonderful person!

ガイドの正澄さんは、本当にすばらしい方でした。中国で5日間、東京でさらに4日間を過ごして京都に到着した私たちは、主要な名所は見たいものの、少し寺院巡りに疲れており、子どもたちにはもっと体験を楽しませたいと伝えました。

正澄さんは行程を一から組み直し、和菓子づくりの見学、1日に一本の包丁を手仕事で作る八代続く鍛冶職人、映画村、奈良公園、モンキーパークへ連れて行ってくださいました。礼儀正しく、準備も行き届いていました。傘を用意し、妻と娘にはうちわで風を送りながら、地域の歴史も教えてくださいました。特別なガイドのおかげで、すばらしい経験ができました。京都周辺を巡るならMKを、そして可能なら正澄さんをおすすめします。

Our guide, Masa, was amazing. Let me repeat: amazing. We arrived in Kyoto after five days in China and four more in Tokyo. Though we wanted to see the major sights, we told Masa that we were a little “templed out” and would like to do more experiences for our kids.

Masa created a whole new itinerary for us. He took us to see Japanese candy being made, an eighth-generation blacksmith who made knives by hand—one per day—a studio park, deer park, and monkey park. He was so polite and organized. He had umbrellas for us, was constantly providing a breeze to my wife and daughter with a handheld fan, and told us about the history of the area. He was a special guide and gave us an amazing experience. If you want to take a tour of the Kyoto area, I recommend MK highly, and if you can get Masa as a guide, even better.
